Western — nature, made by hand
Since 1993
The material

Since 1993, we have cast stone from natural rock.

The mould keeps every detail of the surface, and the piece is made and painted by hand in our atelier in Cajamar.

Nothing is quarried.

The rock stays where it is. We take only the mould.

From rock to architecture

Five stages.

    Origin

    the rock, still in nature

It all begins with a real rock, where it stands.

    the mould records the stone

The mould is taken from the mother stone: every fissure, every vein, every grain is recorded.

    Casting

the rock’s form passes to the piece

The piece comes out of the mould with the relief and texture of the original.

    Finishing

    the finish, layer by layer

It is painted by hand, tone by tone, until the piece matches its place.

    Installation

    the piece in place

What reaches the site is our recording of the rock: a piece ready to install, with the texture of the original.

Sustainability

A web inside every piece.

The cement compound contains recycled PET fibre. Inside, the fibres form a three-dimensional web that makes the piece safer.

Frequently asked questions

Up close, does it look like real stone?

The mould comes from a real rock: the grain, the sediments and the creases come from it. The painting is done by hand, in six layers.

How much does it weigh compared with natural stone?

On average, 10 times less. It depends on the piece: the Cascata Santa Bárbara weighs 280 kg, and the same piece in natural stone would weigh over 2 tonnes. The Pedra Grande 1 weighs 74 kg, against about 570 kg in natural stone.

Can the stone go on a slab, balcony or rooftop?

Yes, and it’s one of the uses of Western stone: ponds and waterfalls on balconies and rooftops, where natural stone, because of its weight, can’t go. Every piece has its weight listed. For a slab or rooftop, confirm the load with the Western team.

How long does the stone last?

Western pieces installed in 1995 are still standing. Inside, the recycled PET fibre forms a three-dimensional web that makes the piece safer. We also offer a 5-year warranty against manufacturing defects on our products.

Does the stone stand up to sun, rain and chlorine? What care does it need?

It does: it withstands chlorine, sun, rain and changes in temperature. To clean it, use a damp cloth or a water jet and avoid abrasive or acidic products.
