Frequently asked questions.
Getting started
I’m an architect. Do I need to commission a design from Western?
Not necessarily. At Chalé Cristal, the architecture is by Atelier O’Reilly; at the All Resort pavilion, the design is by Jader Almeida. In both, Western brought the stone: modelling, engineering and execution in our own atelier. If you wish, the Western team can also design the space in 2D and 3D, with realistic renderings, from the preliminary study to the construction drawings.
I don’t have a project yet. Where do I start?
With a conversation with the Western team. Send a photo of the space, the city and what you imagine for that place. The project can begin here: the space is designed in 2D and 3D, with realistic renderings, and you see the result before the build.
Talk to WesternCan I buy individual stones or waterfalls?
It depends on who’s buying. Companies with an active Brazilian CNPJ, such as pool stores, pond builders and landscape designers, buy the pieces at the Western Store, Western’s B2B shop. For your home, the pieces, kits and sets come through partner stores and professionals in your region, and Western tells you who serves you.
For your homeIt’s for my home. Do you take that on?
Yes. For complete, custom projects of natural pools, aviaries, cladding, design and ponds, Western designs and builds. To buy products, kits, compositions and sets, we refer you to partner stores and professionals in your region.
For specifiers
I’ve specified a piece from the catalogue. How does my client buy it?
Talk to our team so we can understand your request and look after you and your client with the quality your project deserves.
Talk to WesternDoes Western make custom pieces and cladding?
Yes. Beyond the 50 pieces in our line, the atelier designs and casts pieces for each project. There are examples on this site: the monolithic counter at the Ryoan restaurant, the niches, benches and oven at Rosewood, in Cidade Matarazzo, and the table base in Caito Maia’s office.
Can the stone go on a slab, balcony or rooftop?
Yes, and it’s one of the uses of Western stone: ponds and waterfalls on balconies and rooftops, where natural stone, because of its weight, can’t go. Every piece has its weight listed. For a slab or rooftop, confirm the load with the Western team.
Can I cut or drill the piece?
Yes. You can adapt the products to whatever your project or application calls for. It cuts with a masonry saw and drills with a drill bit. Get in touch with the Western team and we’ll send you the specifications for customising it.
Does Western install, or only supply the stone?
On Western’s custom projects, we can work with architects, designers or landscape designers, or with our in-house team, where the work runs from design to installation and is all Western’s. Pieces from our line, bought at the Western Store, are installed by the professional who buys them: pool store, pond builder or landscape designer.
Can I ask for a custom tone?
Yes. Beyond the four finishes in our line, the atelier develops tones to match the geology of each project’s region, quoted per project. At Chalé Cristal, the rock was cast in the Carbon tone.
For your home or your hotel
I already have an architect or landscape designer. Does Western work with them?
Yes, we do. For example, see here: at T.F. Project, the architecture is by JJ Arquitetas and the landscaping by Cristina Volker; at Chalé Cristal, the landscaping is by Salvetti Garden Design. If your landscape designer, pond builder, retailer or pool builder is buying the pieces, they buy straight from the atelier, through the Western Store.
I already have a pool. Can it be transformed?
Three projects on this site began with a pool that was already there. At Módulo 15, the concrete shell stayed, and the edges, the beach entry and everything around it changed. At C.G.M. Project, Western designed the waterfall, the sand beach, the pond, the light and the sound around the pool. To assess yours, send us a photo and the city.
The house is already finished. Does the work need a crane?
Western waterfalls and stones need neither a truck-mounted crane nor a crane. That’s why they go in with the house finished, in hard-to-reach places and on rooftops.
How much does it cost?
Project pricing is on request: each project is designed for its place. To start, send a photo of the space, the city and what you have in mind.
Do you work in my city?
Yes. Western works outside the state of São Paulo. It all depends on the idea, the project, the dimensions and the quote. Get in touch with our team so we can understand what you need.
What is the warranty on the work?
On projects that Western designs and builds, the work is handed over with a 5-year warranty.
How is the water treated?
On our projects, and for our end clients, architects and trade partners, we recommend treating the water with an ozone filter. Our team details the treatment system for pools and ponds when you commission a Western project or solution.
Can I see the stone up close before deciding?
Of course. We can arrange a visit to our atelier after a conversation between our team and you. If you’re interested in the Woodstone collection, Gaia and Origem are on display at HIO Decor Concept: Alameda Gabriel Monteiro da Silva, 1921, Jardim América, São Paulo.
Do you work on hotels, resorts and restaurants?
We do. Some of our cases are on this site: Chalé Cristal, at Unique Garden, in Mairiporã (SP); the waterfall and embankment at All Resort, in Porto Belo (SC); the pool area at Rosewood, in Cidade Matarazzo; and the counter at the Ryoan restaurant, in São Paulo. Western has served the corporate sector for more than 30 years.
For retailers
Who can buy at the Western Store?
The Western Store sells to companies with an active Brazilian CNPJ: pool stores, pond builders and landscape designers. Our team reviews each registration, and we reply by WhatsApp or email.
The stone and Western
Is Western stone natural stone?
Our stone is handmade, cast from a natural rock. The mould is taken from the rock, which stays where it is in nature, and we reproduce every detail of its surface. It’s a sustainable product: the piece is made from a cement compound with recycled PET fibre, and it’s painted by hand in the Western atelier.
Up close, does it look like real stone?
The mould comes from a real rock: the grain, the sediments and the creases come from it. The painting is done by hand, in six layers.
How much does it weigh compared with natural stone?
On average, 10 times less. It depends on the piece: the Cascata Santa Bárbara weighs 280 kg, and the same piece in natural stone would weigh over 2 tonnes. The Pedra Grande 1 weighs 74 kg, against about 570 kg in natural stone.
How long does the stone last?
Western pieces installed in 1995 are still standing. Inside, the recycled PET fibre forms a three-dimensional web that makes the piece safer. We also offer a 5-year warranty against manufacturing defects on our products.
Does Western take stone from nature?
No. From the site, Western takes only the mould, and the rock stays where it is. The pieces’ compound contains recycled PET fibre, and Western has been a member of the Green Building Council Brasil since February 2024.
Is the Western Store Western’s own?
Yes. The Western Store is Western’s B2B wholesale shop, for pool stores, pond builders and landscape designers.
I’m a designer. Can I create a collab with Western stone?
Yes. That’s how Woodstone was born, with Arboreal’s wood, and Aura Lumina, with Sophia Hegg’s fashion: Western brings the stone, cast and painted by hand, and the partner studio brings its own material and its own way of making. Western is looking for architects, landscape designers and designers for its next projects.
Does the stone stand up to sun, rain and chlorine? What care does it need?
It does: it withstands chlorine, sun, rain and changes in temperature. To clean it, use a damp cloth or a water jet and avoid abrasive or acidic products.
Will the piece look exactly like the photo?
Western products are handmade: shape, colour and weight can vary.
Is the stone safe for pond fish?
Yes. The materials we use are non-toxic.
